Synopsis
Columbus (2017) is a quiet drama from director Kogonada that you can watch online on iFILM. Jin flies into a small Indiana town after his father, a celebrated architecture scholar, collapses into a coma midway through a speaking tour.
There he meets Casey, a local who gives walking tours of the city's modernist landmarks between shifts at the library. She's putting off college to stay near her mother, a recovering addict. Two near-strangers wander the streets, talking about buildings, parents, and the things that keep us rooted in one place. There's barely a plot in the usual sense — just conversation, stillness, and frames composed with a draftsman's care.
John Cho and Haley Lu Richardson play it all in low registers, and Columbus itself, with its Saarinen and Pei structures, becomes a third character. This was Kogonada's debut after years as a video essayist, and it lands for anyone drawn to slow, gentle films like Paterson or the work of Ozu. Stream Columbus (2017) online on iFILM.
