Aftersun

Aftersun (2022) is a British-American drama from writer-director Charlotte Wells that you can watch online on iFILM. Paul Mescal plays Calum, a young father who takes his eleven-year-old daughter Sophie to a low-budget Turkish resort — the kind of trip that looks uncomplicated until you look closely.

Frankie Corio plays Sophie as a child. She's curious, alive to everything, and just old enough to notice that her father isn't quite himself — without being old enough to name what she's seeing. Two decades later, adult Sophie (Celia Rowlson-Hall) watches the camcorder footage from that trip and tries to close the gap between the man she remembers and the one the tape reveals: a laugh that cuts off too soon, a long stare at nothing, something at the edge of the pool. Wells builds the film from these fragments rather than around them.
