Synopsis

The Man Who Would Be King (1975) is John Huston's adventure drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Two ex-soldiers of the British Army decide to walk off the edge of the map, into a land no European has reached since Alexander the Great.

Daniel Dravot (Sean Connery) and Peachy Carnehan (Michael Caine) trek to remote Kafiristan and gamble everything on sheer nerve. Armed with a few rifles and some cheap tricks, they pass themselves off as emissaries from heaven. The locals take Daniel for a god, a descendant of Alexander himself, and the old rogue starts wearing the crown for real. That is when the partners' pact, no drinking and no women until they are rich, begins to crack. Christopher Plummer plays a young Rudyard Kipling, whose novella inspired the film.

Huston nursed this project for decades, and it shows: a tale of friendship, greed and the intoxication of power, delivered with dry imperial wit. The Connery-Caine chemistry is the reason it rewards a rewatch. One for fans of old-school adventure with a bitter sting in the tail. Stream The Man Who Would Be King (1975) online on iFILM.
