Synopsis

The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) is an action-adventure film from Touchstone Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Kevin Reynolds from a screenplay by Jay Wolpert, it draws on Alexandre Dumas' novel: Jim Caviezel plays Edmond Dantes, Guy Pearce his treacherous friend Fernand Mondego, and Richard Harris the imprisoned priest Abbé Faria.

Dantes is a sailor with no enemies and no debts — until a forged letter lands him in the Château d'If without trial. Years pass. Faria finds him through a tunnel dug in the wrong direction, and the two form an unlikely bond: the old man teaches Edmond swordsmanship, languages, and where a vast fortune is buried on a remote island. Once free and wealthy, Dantes reinvents himself as a mysterious nobleman and works his way into the lives of every person who destroyed him. An early-career Henry Cavill appears as young Albert Mondego.

The film grossed over $75 million against a $35 million budget and holds up as one of the more entertaining Dumas adaptations — lean, fast-paced, and built around solid duel sequences. Stream The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) online on iFILM.
