Synopsis

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) is Peter Jackson's concluding chapter of the Tolkien trilogy — watch it online on iFILM. Produced by New Line Cinema and MGM and filmed in New Zealand, it stars Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield.

Smaug is dead, but the gold of Erebor draws armies from every direction: the elves of Mirkwood under King Thranduil (Lee Pace), the men of the ruined Laketown led by Bard (Luke Evans), and the dwarven host of Dain. Thorin is gripped by the same gold-sickness that destroyed his grandfather, making him dangerous to the very allies he needs. Bilbo, the one character whose loyalties haven't curdled, has to decide how far he'll go to stop a war. Benedict Cumberbatch voices both Smaug and Sauron, whose shadow reaches even into the White Council's stronghold.

At 144 minutes, the film delivers the large-scale battle sequences the trilogy has been building toward, closing a six-hour journey from the Shire to the Lonely Mountain. Budget was $250 million; global box office cleared $956 million. Stream The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) on iFILM.
