Oren Little is good at exactly one thing: driving people away, and he likes it that way. All he wants is to sell one last expensive house, retire, and stop talking to anybody. That plan falls apart when his estranged son, headed to prison, drops nine-year-old Sarah on his doorstep. Clueless about kids, Oren shoves her off on his neighbor Leah, a widowed lounge singer who takes the girl in out of plain kindness. From there it's a predictable but warm thaw between three lonely people.

Douglas clearly enjoys playing the grump, Keaton softens him with her trademark jittery tenderness, and Reiner himself turns up in a small role. It's a quiet, low-stakes movie aimed squarely at older viewers, short on surprises but with a couple of genuinely touching beats. Easy comfort for a calm evening.
