Synopsis

Weekend at Bernie's (1989) is Ted Kotcheff's crime comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Two low-level insurance clerks, Larry and Richard, spot a fraud in the company books and report it. As a reward, their boss Bernie invites them out to his beachfront mansion for the weekend.

The invite is a trap. Bernie has ordered a mob hit on both of them, but the mob gets to Bernie first, since he was sleeping with the kingpin's girlfriend. The guys arrive at paradise to find their host dead on the couch. With guests on the way and a hitman lurking, their only play is to prop Bernie up and pretend he is alive and merely very drunk. Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman haul Terry Kiser's corpse all over the island.

The whole joke rides on sheer nerve, dragging the body behind a speedboat, waving its hand, planting it at the dinner table while none of the tipsy partygoers catch on. It is a piece of macabre slapstick that turned into a meme decades before memes existed. Dumb, but weirdly hard to resist. Stream Weekend at Bernie's (1989) online on iFILM.
