Mary Magdalene (2018) is a historical drama from director Garth Davis that you can watch online on iFILM. It sets out to reclaim a woman whom centuries painted as a sinner and to tell the story through her own eyes instead.

First-century Judea. Mary walks away from a marriage her family has arranged and falls in with a wandering group gathered around a preacher from Nazareth. She is the only woman among the followers, and her conviction runs deeper than most of the men beside her. The road bends toward Jerusalem and an ending she senses coming before anyone else does. Rooney Mara plays Mary quiet and stubborn, Joaquin Phoenix gives a weary, human Jesus, and Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tahar Rahim round out the circle.

Davis strips away the gold and the spectacle: dusty hills, weathered faces, light kept low. The score was written by Jóhann Jóhannsson and Hildur Guðnadóttir, their final collaboration. The film argues with the familiar image of its heroine and asks you to read a well-worn story from an unexpected angle.
