Synopsis
We Are Marshall (2006) is McG's sports drama you can watch online on iFILM. In the autumn of 1970, a plane carrying the Marshall University football team went down on its approach near Huntington, West Virginia. Nobody walked away. Seventy-five players, coaches and fans were gone in a single night.
A grieving town buries almost its entire team at once and nearly shuts the program down for good. New coach Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) talks the school into rebuilding from scratch, pulling together freshmen, benchwarmers and students who had never suited up. Red Dawson (Matthew Fox), one of the few coaches who survived, signs on as his assistant while quietly drowning in guilt for being alive. Kate Mara, David Strathairn and Ian McShane play people who lost loved ones in the crash and now watch their town try to breathe again.
Drawn from what really happened in Huntington, the film leans on stubbornness rather than scoreboard wins. It is about grief that cannot be undone, and a team that became a whole community's way of staying upright. Stream We Are Marshall (2006) online on iFILM.
