The Last Kiss

Giulia is pregnant and happy. Carlo is quietly terrified. At a wedding he meets Francesca, an eighteen-year-old who offers one last reckless taste of being young, and he can't quite say no. Around him, other lives crack open too: Giulia's mother Anna finally leaves a husband who stopped seeing her years ago, while Carlo's friends each chase escape in their own messy way. Nobody here lies out of cruelty — they lie because growing up scares them.

Stefano Accorsi and Giovanna Mezzogiorno make this couple feel uncomfortably familiar, and Stefania Sandrelli gives the film its sadder, grown-up counterweight. Muccino refuses to judge anyone; he just watches how hard loyalty gets once it starts to feel like a cage.
