Synopsis
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) is a Western drama directed by Andrew Dominik that you can watch online on iFILM. Brad Pitt plays Jesse James — a man half of Missouri feared and the other half turned into folklore — in the closing months before it all came apart.
Robert Ford (Casey Affleck) joins the James gang in 1881 having memorized every rumor about his idol. His brother Charley (Sam Rockwell) rides along, and a shrinking circle of men who are no longer sure where Jesse's paranoia ends. Dominik is not interested in the robbery; he tracks the slow collapse between a legend and the young man who studies him too closely — until the morning of April 3, 1882, in a house in St. Joseph. Roger Deakins shot every frame like a painting.
The film adapts Ron Hansen's 1983 novel and was produced by Plan B Entertainment and Warner Bros. At the 2007 Venice Film Festival, Dominik took the Silver Lion for Best Director and Affleck won the Marcello Mastroianni Award.
