Leading the chase is FBI deputy director Harold Harper (John Lithgow), an old ally who isn't sure he even wants to bring Dan in. The further the past unspools, the clearer it gets that forces bigger than either man are pulling the strings. Alia Shawkat plays the young neighbor whose role is anything but accidental.

Made for FX and adapted from Thomas Perry's novel, the show lives or dies on its two screen veterans — Bridges and Lithgow trade long, loaded conversations you can't look away from, while the fight scenes land hard and unglamorous.
