Synopsis
The White Robes (Belye odezhdy, 1992) is a Soviet-era drama series you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from Vladimir Dudintsev's landmark novel about the years when genetics was branded a fake science.
A young biologist arrives at a provincial research institute and walks straight into a witch hunt. The official line demands he renounce forbidden research; staying loyal to the truth risks not a reprimand but prison and the end of everything he's built. He's forced to choose between his honest name and his own safety, and only sheer luck keeps him from being crushed.
Director Leonid Belozorovich leans on Dudintsev's book, one of the sharpest accounts of ideology poisoning Soviet science. Valery Garkalin, Andrei Boltnev and Aleksei Buldakov head the cast.
