Synopsis
Ruddy's Career (1934) — watch online on iFILM — is a Soviet anti-fascist drama directed by Vladimir Nemolyayev, made when the events it depicts were barely two years old.
Engineering graduate Ruddy earns his diploma and a gold medal. His classmate Joseph — Jewish — gets the same honor. Nazi students break up the ceremony, beat Joseph, and rough up Ruddy for standing with him. Months of job-hunting follow. An old schoolmate offers a way in: play football for a nationalist club, collect the stipend. Ruddy says yes.
The film dates from 1934, when the Nazi rise was current news, not history. Ruddy is not a hero from the start — he is a young man short on options who makes a bad deal. His eventual turn toward the workers' side carries more weight for it. Stream Ruddy's Career online on iFILM.
