Synopsis

All summer, fourteen-year-old Mouse dreams of joining The Midnight Clique, the riders who own the streets on their roaring pit bikes. His older brother died young in a crash, so his mother forbids him from going anywhere near a bike. Then the clique's leader, Blax, takes the kid under his wing, and two roads open up in front of Mouse: school and the straight path, or fast money, guns and trouble. Jahi Di'Allo Winston carries the film with almost no false notes, alongside rapper Meek Mill as a mentor figure and Teyonah Parris.
Soto shoots Baltimore less as a crime report and more as a living neighborhood with its own code, engine noise and teenage hunger for respect. A strong pick for anyone who connected with Moonlight and its honest look at a young Black boy growing up. Stream Charm City Kings (2020) online on iFILM.
