Synopsis
Ordinary Miracle (1978) is a Soviet fantasy drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Mark Zakharov from a play by Yevgeny Shvarts. A sorcerer (Oleg Yankovsky) turned a bear into a young man years ago, with one condition attached: if a princess kisses him, he changes back.
The young man — Alexander Abdulov — and a princess (Yevgenia Simonova) meet at the sorcerer's house and fall for each other properly. Now he is in a position where the one thing he wants most is the one thing that would end him. He refuses to kiss her. She does not understand why. The audience does.
Zakharov holds the tone between romantic comedy and quiet tragedy, which is exactly what Shvarts wrote — a fairy tale that knows what it is doing.
