Synopsis

A Bridge Too Far (1977) is Richard Attenborough's war drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. It runs nearly three hours and recounts how, in the autumn of 1944, the Allies gambled on ending the war in one bold stroke and got it wrong.

The plan was code-named Market Garden: drop airborne troops behind German lines in Holland and grab a string of bridges so armour could roll straight to the Rhine and into Germany. On paper it looked brilliant. On the ground it meant overstretched supply lines, intelligence about German panzer units near Arnhem that nobody acted on, weather that turned, and paratroopers landed miles from where they needed to be. Attenborough refuses to dress it up; this is a film about a well-planned defeat, told from both sides of it.

The cast alone is a spectacle: Sean Connery, Michael Caine, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Robert Redford, Dirk Bogarde and Laurence Olivier in one picture. It was shot on real locations with genuine hardware and thousands of extras, no digital trickery. Stream A Bridge Too Far (1977) online on iFILM.
