Synopsis
Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter (2014) is a David Zellner drama you can watch online on iFILM. Rinko Kikuchi plays a withdrawn Tokyo office worker who mistakes a fictional film for a documentary and decides its buried money is real.
Kumiko shares a cramped apartment with her rabbit Bunzo, brews tea for a clueless boss, and pours her real attention into a worn-out VHS tape. One scene shows a case of stolen cash hidden in the snow. She rewinds it obsessively, stitches together a map, and convinces herself the treasure is hers to find. So she leaves it all behind for the brutal Minnesota winter, hunting something that was never there.
The Zellner brothers turn an urban legend about a real woman into a quiet, stubborn fable about obsession and escape. Kikuchi carries nearly the whole thing on a single haunted expression. One for viewers who like their stories slow, strange and a little heartbreaking. Stream Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter (2014) online on iFILM.
