Synopsis
Coming Soon (Pek Yakında, 2014) is Cem Yılmaz's tragicomedy, available to watch online on iFILM. Yılmaz writes, directs and stars as Zafer, a bootleg-DVD hawker who once scraped by as a movie extra.
When his fed-up wife starts talking divorce, Zafer swears off the illegal trade and grabs a wild plan to win her back: make an actual film. He sets out to finish "Summit – The End of Evil," a fantastical sci-fi project stalled since 1977, with a ragtag crew as underqualified as he is. What follows is a funny, clumsy, surprisingly tender ride for a man with no money and no clue but plenty of stubbornness.
Yılmaz is a comedy giant in Turkey, and he leans less on gags here than on the charm of a loser dragging his friends into a doomed adventure. Give the 134 minutes a chance and the crew grows on you. Stream Coming Soon (2014) online on iFILM.
