Detention

Detention (2012) is a horror-comedy-sci-fi hybrid directed by Joseph Kahn that you can watch online on iFILM. Shanley Caswell plays Riley, a high-school outcast who hates her school, is invisible to her crush Clapton Davis — played by Josh Hutcherson — and opens the film by deciding to end it all. A masked killer named Cinderhella shows up and derails her plan before she can execute it.

From there the film refuses to stay in one genre for more than ten minutes. A slasher plot runs alongside time travel, body-swapping, and a student carrying a secret that belongs in a different movie entirely. Spencer Locke and Dane Cook round out the cast as the film accelerates into deliberate, cheerful chaos.

Kahn cut Detention like a music video — fast, loud, packed with 90s and 2000s pop-culture debris. It is not interested in building tension the conventional way.
