Synopsis
45 Years (2015) is Andrew Haigh's quiet British drama, available to watch online on iFILM. One week before their forty-fifth wedding anniversary, a letter reaches Geoff Mercer: the body of a woman he loved decades before he ever met his wife has surfaced in a Swiss glacier, perfectly preserved.
That single piece of news begins to unsettle a marriage everyone assumed was solid. Kate, played by Charlotte Rampling, watches her husband drift back toward a past she was never part of, and starts wondering who that long-dead woman really was — and how much of her still lingers in their home. Tom Courtenay's Geoff grows distracted, tender, evasive. The anniversary party draws closer. Whether there's a marriage worth celebrating is suddenly an open question.
Haigh builds the whole film out of glances and silences rather than big confrontations. Rampling earned an Oscar nomination for Kate, and both leads won acting prizes at the Berlin Film Festival. This is one for viewers who like their drama restrained, intimate and adult. Stream 45 Years (2015) online on iFILM.
