Step Up

Tyler Gage settles things his own way on the streets of Baltimore. After he trashes a performing-arts school one night, the court sends him back there to work off the damage — sweeping floors, hauling sets. Suddenly the kid from the block is surrounded by students who have trained at the barre since age six. When senior dancer Nora loses her partner right before a make-or-break showcase, she takes a gamble and pairs up with the janitor. Street hip-hop and classical technique clash first, then start to move as one.

Fletcher came up as a choreographer, and it shows: the dancing here is how the characters actually talk to each other. Tatum and Dewan met on this set and later married.
