Synopsis
Angst (1983) is an Austrian psychological thriller directed by Gerald Kargl that you can watch online on iFILM. In 75 relentless minutes, a killer walks out of prison and sets to work again — immediately.
The film draws on actual criminal records. The lead character's inner monologue is shaped partly by the confessions of Peter Kürten, the so-called Düsseldorf Vampire, and the screenplay is rooted in a real murder case. Erwin Leder plays the killer with an unsettling physical rawness, and cinematographer Zbigniew Rybczynski keeps the camera glued to him — close, handheld, almost inside the act.
Kargl made only this one feature in his entire career, yet it earned a firm place in the canon of extreme European horror. This is not a jump-scare film. It is a cold, near-documentary study of how violence happens — methodical enough to unsettle long after the credits roll. Stream Angst (1983) online on iFILM.
