Tommaso was a real shepherd who spent years guarding a crumbling Bourbon royal estate in the Caserta countryside — without pay, without any official role, out of a personal conviction that someone had to. His dying wish was to save a young buffalo named Sarchiapone. Pulcinella — the old fool of the Commedia dell'arte — rises from beneath Mount Vesuvius to carry out the task. Actor Elio Germano provides Sarchiapone's voice. Together they move north through an Italy that is beautiful and forsaken in equal measure.
