Synopsis
Martin Eden (2019), Pietro Marcello's drama drawn from Jack London's novel, is available to watch online on iFILM. The story moves from California to twentieth-century Italy, where a penniless sailor falls for a girl from a wealthy household and resolves to become a writer worthy of her.
Luca Marinelli carries the title role, a performance that took the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at Venice. His Martin can barely read at first, yet he burns through books, writes through the night and ships story after story to editors who keep sending them back. Ruth Orsini opens a door into a world that has no place for him. The closer fame comes, the further he drifts from his own class and from the love that started it all.
