Synopsis
Apollo 13: Survival (2024) is a British documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Pete Middleton. Using NASA's original mission footage alongside present-day interviews, the film covers six days in April 1970 — from liftoff at Cape Kennedy to splashdown in the Pacific.
On the third day, an oxygen tank in the service module ruptured. Commander Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise lost most of their power and breathable air and moved into the lunar module Aquarius — a craft designed for two people and two days. Back in Houston, engineers built a CO₂ filter from duct tape, cardboard and a plastic bag, with hours to spare before the air inside became lethal.
Ron Howard's 1995 dramatisation covered the same six days. What this version adds is the astronauts themselves — Lovell and Haise at more than fifty years' remove, talking through the fear, the calculations, and the improvisation that got them home.
