Senna

Senna (2010) is Asif Kapadia's documentary about Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna, ready to watch online on iFILM. There are no studio interviews on screen. The whole story is built from archive footage, in-car cameras and the voices of people who were there.

The film follows Senna from his first season as a Formula 1 rookie to the day, a decade later, when the Imola circuit took his life. Along the way: three world titles, wet-weather laps fans still rewind, and a bitter rivalry with Alain Prost that curdled from sporting competition into a personal feud over every point. Kapadia cuts the races so tightly that even viewers who know the ending hold their breath.

Senna's family and Formula 1's leadership opened their film vaults to Kapadia, and out of that material came a portrait of a man for whom faith, country and speed were one thing.
