Synopsis
Chinese Take-Away (Un cuento chino, 2011) is an Argentine comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Roberto runs a hardware store in Buenos Aires and lives by the clock, counting screws and clipping absurd news stories from the paper.
One afternoon his airtight routine snaps. Outside the airport he stumbles onto Jun, a young Chinese man who has just been robbed, shoved out of a taxi and left stranded with no Spanish and nowhere to go. Jun is hunting for an uncle whose address is tattooed on his arm. Grumpy, allergic to any intrusion into his world, Roberto reluctantly takes the stranger in for a night, then another. Ricardo Darín plays Roberto bone-dry and exact, while Ignacio Huang answers him with almost no words at all.
Director Sebastián Borensztein hangs the whole thing on a ridiculous spark, a cow falling out of the sky, then steers it toward a quiet story about two lost men. The humor stays restrained, the sadness is real. It suits anyone who likes small films about chance encounters that crack a person open. Stream Chinese Take-Away (2011) online on iFILM.
