Crimson Rivers II: Angels of the Apocalypse

Crimson Rivers II: Angels of the Apocalypse (Les Rivières pourpres 2, 2004) is a French action thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Jean Reno returns as Commissaire Pierre Niemans, this time called to a corpse sealed inside a monastery wall, a dead man whose DNA somehow matches the blood of Christ.

Meanwhile young detective Reda, played by Benoît Magimel, finds a half-dead stranger marked with crucifixion wounds outside a church. Reda once trained under Niemans, and the two team up with a religion scholar to chase a killer staging the deaths of the twelve Apostles one by one. The trail runs through a secretive order of warrior monks and a hidden arms cache near the border, and somewhere around there the film trades its mystery for flat-out combat.

Luc Besson wrote the script, Olivier Dahan directed, and Christopher Lee turns up in a small role. This sequel to the 2000 hit went straight to television and plays louder and looser than the original, leaning hard on the martial-arts stunt work of Cyril Raffaelli.
