Force of Nature

Force of Nature (2020) is a crime action thriller with Mel Gibson, available to watch online on iFILM. A hurricane bears down on Puerto Rico, and two cops are ordered to clear out an apartment building where a few residents flatly refuse to leave.

One of the holdouts is Ray, a retired cop who won't get out of his armchair — that's Gibson. His rookie partner, Jess, is getting her trial by fire. While the officers try to talk the tenants out, an armed gang slips into the building under cover of the storm: the thieves know a fortune is hidden in one of the units. There's no way out and no backup coming, so the old cop has to dust off his instincts. The cast rounds out with Emile Hirsch, Kate Bosworth and David Zayas.

Director Michael Polish takes the familiar siege-in-one-building setup and swaps the usual blizzard for a tropical storm. It's a no-frills picture with no hidden depth: gunfights, pouring rain and Gibson playing a grumpy veteran. A fine pick for a night when you want a straightforward 90-minute shoot-'em-up.
