Synopsis
The Night of the 12th (La Nuit du 12, 2022) is a French crime drama by Dominik Moll you can watch online on iFILM. One October night, a young woman named Clara is set on fire walking home near Grenoble, and the case lands on the desk of Yohan, newly promoted to lead the local police squad.
Yohan and his team start pulling apart Clara's life: ex-boyfriends, casual flings, a string of men who each had reason to resent her. Every interrogation opens a door and closes it again. Suspects pile up, evidence does not, and the case slowly stops being a job and becomes something Yohan can't put down. Bastien Bouillon plays him quiet and worn, riding laps around a night velodrome to keep his head clear.
Adapted from Pauline Guéna's nonfiction account of a real homicide unit, the film swept six César Awards, Best Film among them. Moll isn't really after the killer here. He's after the way men look at women, and why this one murder won't let his detective rest. Great for anyone who likes a cold, patient procedural with no chases and no easy answers.
