Dom Hemingway

Dom Hemingway (2013) is a British crime comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Jude Law disappears into the title role — bloated, loud and impossibly cocky, a safecracker fresh out of a twelve-year stretch he served without naming a single name.

Out of prison, Dom goes straight to collecting what he reckons he's owed for keeping quiet. He heads to France to see crime boss Ivan Fontaine, played by Demian Bichir, and demand his cut. The good fortune doesn't last: one drunken night, and the payday he was counting on slips right through his fingers. His loyal mate Dickie, played by Richard E. Grant, sticks around through it all, while somewhere his grown daughter Evelyn — Emilia Clarke — is waiting to hear from him.

Director Richard Shepard builds the whole thing around language: Dom's monologues are torrents of filthy poetry, vanity and surprising tenderness. The film lives or dies on Law, and he clearly relishes playing a man this brash, this absurd and this close to tragic.
