The Matador

The Matador (2005) is a pitch-black buddy comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Pierce Brosnan ditches the Bond tuxedo to play Julian Noble, a sweaty, foul-mouthed contract killer whose nerve is starting to crack.

He corners traveling salesman Danny Wright, played by Greg Kinnear, in a Mexico City hotel bar. One man kills people for a living; the other peddles deals and goes home to a quiet marriage in Denver. A few drinks later they're an unlikely pair, and six months on Julian shows up at Danny's door asking for the one favor a normal friend would never ask. Hope Davis plays Danny's wife, with Adam Scott rounding out the cast.

Writer-director Richard Shepard hangs the whole thing on the two leads, and Brosnan runs with it — twitchy, crude, falling apart, the best work of his post-007 stretch, and good enough to land him a Golden Globe nomination.
