About

Synopsis

Rififi (Du rififi chez les hommes, 1955) is Jules Dassin's French crime noir, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Jewel thief Tony walks out of prison after five years, finds his old flame on the arm of a local gangster, and signs on for a job that could blow everything apart.

At first Tony waves off the quick smash-and-grab his friend Jo pitches. Then he blows it up into a full robbery of a jewelry shop on a Paris street. Four men, a meticulous plan, no guns, and barely a word spoken. The heist itself runs close to half an hour — no music, no dialogue, just breathing, scraping, and the tap of tools against a safe. Once the loot is split, the real danger begins: betrayal, paranoia, and a reckoning nobody walks away from clean.

Blacklisted out of Hollywood, Dassin shot this in France on next to nothing, reworking a pulpy crime novel into something lean and merciless. Cannes handed him its directing prize, and that wordless break-in went on to be copied by dozens of films. A genre cornerstone for anyone who loves old black-and-white pictures about honest thieves and ugly endings. Stream Rififi (1955) online on iFILM.
