Pay the Ghost

Pay the Ghost (2015) is a supernatural horror you can watch online on iFILM. During a crowded Halloween parade in New York, literature professor Mike Cole watches his young son vanish into the crowd.

Nicolas Cage plays Mike. The police find nothing, and a year later he starts seeing things and hearing messages he can't explain away. With his estranged wife, played by Sarah Wayne Callies, he digs up an old piece of city folklore: a centuries-old curse that claims children every Halloween. To get his boy back he has one chance and one night, when the wall between the living and the dead wears thin.

Uli Edel directs, working from a short story by Tim Lebbon. The autumn-in-New-York mood, the jack-o'-lanterns and the folk-horror dread land harder than the plot itself, which telegraphs a few of its turns.
