Recess (1997) is the Disney animated series you can watch online on iFILM. Six fourth-graders at Third Street Elementary run their own world, and that world lives out on the playground rather than inside any classroom.

Their ringleader is T.J. Detweiler, a fast-talking schemer with a new plan every recess. Around him: tough little Spinelli, who throws the first punch; level-headed Vince, the natural athlete; brainy Gretchen; gentle giant Mikey, who quotes poetry; and Gus, the new kid and military brat. The playground has its own king, its own laws and a code of loyalty no grown-up gets to break. Teachers and the recess monitor are obstacles to be outwitted, not authorities to obey.

The voice cast carries real weight, with Pamela Adlon, Ashley Johnson and Dabney Coleman in the mix. The show talks to kids about fairness, friendship and standing up to dumb rules without ever turning preachy.
