Synopsis
Stormbreaker (2006) is a family spy-adventure you can watch online on iFILM. Adapted from Anthony Horowitz's first Alex Rider novel and directed by Geoffrey Sax, it drops a schoolboy into the world of MI6.
Fourteen-year-old Alex (Alex Pettyfer) thinks his uncle is a dull bank manager. When the man dies without warning, Alex learns the truth: his guardian was a British intelligence agent. MI6 presses the teenager into finishing the job — getting close to a reclusive billionaire who is handing out free Stormbreaker computers to every school in the country. The gift is generous enough to smell wrong. Climbing, diving, hand-to-hand combat and a satchel of spy gadgets, all drilled into Alex by his uncle for years, suddenly stop being games.
For a teen action film the cast is loaded: Mickey Rourke plays the villain, with Bill Nighy, Ewan McGregor, Stephen Fry, Robbie Coltrane and Andy Serkis filling out the ranks. Think James Bond scaled down for a younger crowd — no blood, plenty of chases and gear. It never aims for depth, but as a breezy family action night it does the job.
