Synopsis
Lovelace (2013) is a biographical drama you can watch online on iFILM. It follows Linda Lovelace, who became the face of a single notorious film and paid a far steeper price for that fame than audiences ever saw. Behind the glossy myth of the sexual revolution sat a marriage built on coercion and abuse.
Amanda Seyfried plays against type, tracing Linda from a sheltered girl raised under a strict mother to a battered woman who finally decides to tell the truth. Peter Sarsgaard is her husband Chuck Traynor — charming in a crowd, brutal once the door closes. Sharon Stone is nearly unrecognizable as Linda's domineering mother, and the margins are filled by James Franco, Hank Azaria, Bobby Cannavale and Chloë Sevigny. The structure runs the same stretch of years twice: first the polished legend, then what actually happened.
Directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman came out of documentary work, and it shows in their cool, unjudging eye. After that one role, Linda walked away from the industry and became a voice against the exploitation of women. The film is short and unsparing — less about scandal than about the cost of letting someone else run your life. Stream Lovelace (2013) online on iFILM.
