Synopsis
Spell (2020) is Mark Tonderai's folk-horror feature, ready to watch online on iFILM. New York attorney Marcus flies his wife and two teenagers to his estranged father's funeral, but a storm over the Appalachians tears their small plane out of the sky.
Marcus (Omari Hardwick) wakes injured in the attic of an elderly woman named Eloise. She swears she pulled him from the wreck and lost track of his family, feeds him strange remedies, and tends his wounds with a hand-stitched effigy she calls a boogity. Every question about his wife and kids is met with silence. The longer he can't walk, the clearer it gets: Eloise practices Hoodoo, and she's keeping him alive for a ritual, not out of kindness. Loretta Devine plays her with a smile far scarier than any threat.
The film drops a Misery-style captivity story into African American folk magic, where roots literally grow through flesh. It's bloody and physical, building dread instead of leaning on jump scares. A solid pick if you like horror about being helpless in a stranger's house. Stream Spell (2020) online on iFILM.
