Synopsis
Ingrid Goes West (2017) is a caustic tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. Matt Spicer's debut feature digs into social-media obsession, with Aubrey Plaza as a woman who treats a single like as an invitation into someone else's life.
Ingrid is unstable and alone. She spends hours scrolling the feed of Instagram star Taylor Sloane, whose curated existence looks flawless from the outside. After a small inheritance lands in her lap, Ingrid bolts to Los Angeles to engineer a chance friendship with her idol. It works, at first — but the closer she gets to Taylor, the thinner the line grows between adoration and threat. Elizabeth Olsen plays the influencer, and O'Shea Jackson Jr. is the easygoing, Batman-loving landlord who keeps the story balanced between funny and unnerving.
The film aims straight at the age of filters and the fake "perfect" online self, and never tips into a lecture about it. The comedy runs cold, and the ending leaves you uneasy. A great fit for fans of indie dramedies built around prickly, hard-to-like leads. Stream Ingrid Goes West (2017) online on iFILM.
