Everly

For years Everly was the captive mistress of a yakuza boss. Bribed neighbors, squads of hired guns, a torturer with a bag of tools — they all come at her door one batch at a time. She has a pistol hidden in the toilet tank, a mother and a young daughter to pull out alive, and a single night to survive the siege without ever leaving four walls.

Lynch stages the whole thing like a sealed shooting gallery: the camera barely steps outside the room, and the tension builds precisely because there is nowhere to run. It runs on style more than logic — a Christmas-night setting, gallows humor and Hayek carrying the picture single-handed.
