Capitalism: A Love Story
Ask not what your CEO can do for you, but what you can do for your CEO
Synopsis
Capitalism: A Love Story (2009) is a Michael Moore documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Moore digs into how the American economy actually works after the 2008 crash, and asks who really footed the bill for bailing out the banks.
The camera moves from families being evicted from their homes to the trading floors of Wall Street and the back rooms of Congress. Moore lays out the life-insurance policies employers quietly took out on their own workers, factories bought back and run by the people who staffed them, and a multibillion-dollar bank rescue pushed through with barely any debate. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur all appear, the last of them explaining why she voted no on the bailout.
Moore keeps his trademark stunts intact, rolling up to corporate headquarters with sacks to collect the stolen money back. The film is openly one-sided, and that's where its bite comes from: it isn't a neutral overview but an angry personal pamphlet from a man who grew up in Flint as the plants shut down. A strong starting point for anyone wanting to understand the 2008 crisis from the side that lost. Stream Capitalism: A Love Story (2009) online on iFILM.
