Devil's Knot

Devil's Knot (2013) is Atom Egoyan's crime drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Three eight-year-old boys are found dead in a small Arkansas town, and suspicion lands fast on three teenage outsiders.

The case against them rests on almost nothing solid: long hair, black clothes, the wrong taste in music, all spun into talk of a satanic ritual. Reese Witherspoon plays a grieving mother caught between rage and doubt about who really did it. Colin Firth is Ron Lax, an investigator who sets out to show the court is chasing a convenient story rather than the facts. Dane DeHaan and Bruce Greenwood round out the cast.

The film draws on the West Memphis Three case, ground already covered by the Paradise Lost documentaries. Egoyan shoots it cold and restrained, refusing easy outrage and leaving the viewer to sit in the jury box.
