England, 1657. Fanny lives a tightly controlled life on a remote Shropshire farm with her Puritan husband John and their young son. When two strangers appear in the barn one evening — Frederick Fox and Tanya Reynolds as Thomas and Rebecca, claiming to have been robbed — John lets them stay the night. The sheriff is already on their trail, and the charges against them are not the kind discussed in a godly household. Clay's film moves deliberately, building a folk-horror unease rather than conventional genre tension.
