Then a stranger named Micah (Anthony Mackie) arrives by hot-air balloon, racing to catch that final flight out. The film turns on the conversation between them: two people who have reached opposite conclusions about whether Earth is worth saving.

Director Helpert keeps the pace deliberately slow — long silences, burnt hillsides, more Beethoven than explosions. Danny Huston appears in a supporting role. IO is not a disaster film; it is closer to a philosophical two-hander set against a dying landscape.
