The Lovebirds

The Lovebirds (2020) is a comedy with Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani you can watch online on iFILM. Leilani and Jibran are four years into their relationship and have just decided to call it quits — about a minute before their whole night goes sideways.

On the way to dinner they clip a cyclist, and seconds later a stranger flashing a police badge hijacks their car and runs the same man down dead. Now they're on the run, because calling the cops isn't an option when you're the prime suspects. One frantic night in New Orleans drags them through blackmail, a masked secret society, and a string of ridiculous scrapes — all while they keep bickering about whether the relationship is even worth saving.

Michael Showalter, who made The Big Sick, directs Nanjiani again here. The pandemic pushed the film off cinema screens and straight onto Netflix. It's a breezy 86-minute mystery-farce that rides almost entirely on the easy chemistry between its two leads. Stream The Lovebirds (2020) online on iFILM.
