The Big Sick

Kumail does stand-up in Chicago and drives an Uber between sets. His Pakistani parents keep inviting eligible women to dinner, expecting an arranged match. Then he meets Emily (Zoe Kazan), a grad student who heckles him at a show, and they fall into a relationship he hides from his family. The lie wrecks things between them, and right after the breakup Emily collapses with a rare infection. Doctors put her into a medically induced coma, and Kumail ends up keeping vigil beside her parents, who can't stand him.
