Horsemen

Horsemen (2009) is Jonas Åkerlund's grim mystery thriller led by Dennis Quaid, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Widowed detective Aidan Breslin works a string of savage, ritualistic murders, only to trace a thread that loops back toward his own life.

Each killing is staged around the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse — Pestilence, War, Famine, Death. The victims aren't simply dead; the perpetrators leave messages and all but invite the detective into their game. Breslin, barely holding his grief together and neglecting his two sons, learns that the killers know far too much about him. A mysterious young woman played by Zhang Ziyi gives testimony that flips the whole investigation.

Åkerlund came up directing music videos for Madonna and Rammstein, and it shows in the cold, stylized frames and bleak winter palette. The cast also features Peter Stormare, Clifton Collins Jr. and Patrick Fugit.
