Synopsis
The Big Chill (1983) is Lawrence Kasdan's dramedy that you can watch online on iFILM. Seven college friends reunite for the funeral of an eighth and end up sharing a house for the whole weekend.
Alex, once the glue of their group, has taken his own life, and his death pulls the scattered classmates back together at a sprawling home in South Carolina. They've all become somebody by now: a journalist, a TV star, a slick lawyer, the dead man's much younger girlfriend. Over a few days they argue about who they swore they'd be in the sixties and who they actually turned into. Old flames flare back up, buried resentments surface, and the question of why Alex did it hangs over every conversation. The cast is stacked: Kevin Kline, Glenn Close, William Hurt, Jeff Goldblum, Tom Berenger and Mary Kay Place. Kevin Costner's scenes as the dead friend were cut, yet he lingers in the memories.
Kasdan paints a portrait of a generation that meant to change the world and woke up at forty with mortgages and good careers. A wall-to-wall Motown soundtrack carries the mood from room to room. It's a treat for anyone who loves talky, gunfire-free movies where the whole drama happens around a kitchen table. Stream The Big Chill (1983) online on iFILM.
