Synopsis
Double Lover (L'Amant double, 2017) is François Ozon's erotic thriller, available to watch online on iFILM. Chloé, a fragile young Parisian, suffers from stomach pains no doctor can explain, so she turns to a psychoanalyst named Paul. He is calm, attentive, and impossible to resist.
The sessions slide into a romance, Chloé moves in, and for a while she is almost at peace. Then she stumbles onto a secret: Paul has a twin brother, Louis, also an analyst, and his exact opposite in temper. She starts seeing Louis in secret, and the line between the two men, between desire and dread, between what is real and what she imagines, begins to dissolve. Marina Vacth carries the whole film, Jérémie Renier plays both brothers, and Jacqueline Bisset turns up as an enigmatic patient.
Ozon shoots it explicit, clinical, and openly indebted to Hitchcock and Cronenberg, all mirrors, doubles, and the body as a source of horror.
